DRINKS AT NIGHT (BEFORE PARTY)

If you arrive at Formosa in the last 24 hours, u made friends, and they will guide you arround, to get some beers or wherever you want to drink. So in the afternoons, when the sol goes down, Formosa have for you sonme cool places to go.

At early hours the logical place to check is the "costanera" or "Paseo Costanero" walking from the Main Street (25 de mayo). You can't drink any buzz arround or in the streets except in bars or restaurants. But if you don't have plans for the next early morning, you can start shering some mate o tereré (cold mate with herbs, or juice) with locals. That doesn't have any alcohol in it, but is a traditional formosenian kind of way of share some time with friends, and refreshing!

USE

If you don't feel like doing traditions, you can go to BALDOMERO DECK or BALDOMERO RESTÓ, both have decks with a river view. There is the place to drink some beers with empanadas, or some "picada " (little pices of chesse an diferent kind of ham and other salty snaks.). Prices around 5 usd for a nice burger. Otherwise you can get inside the restaurant, fancy, nice gourmet food.

On 25 de mayo, a block away from the main square, you can find several bars and services. Is a crowdly zone, so you can meet new friends in the way. Start in VALIENTE, a food track spot where owners try to provide anything you can ask for from regional food to pizza, burgers, stake sandwiches hot dogs draft beer etc....Ususaly they play nice non tropical music. If you are looking for a nice  pizza italian style, you can hit VERONA PIZZA & PASTA on 25 de mayo N°778.

Walk two blocks and you going to find ROMAGUS, is a classic young and cheap place to drink something in  the hot spot of downtown, not paying high prices as in the neighbors CASCOTE and IL VIALE. You don't want to spend much and are two guys? Go there. They have a jukebox and is really a kiosk.
Romagus

CASCOTE is a traditional café , expensive for not specific reason , and IL VIALE is also traditional , expensive but much better. If you are 40 or 50 years old, go there with your  family.

SANTINO, this is more a restaurant, but you can go there for a beer and see the traffic. In weekends after dinner time familys go away and become a younger place. Not great.

You are in Formosa, and doesn't mather if is summer or winter, you need and icecream! The icecream is one of the ways of enjoy the heat. That's why Formosa have a variety of icecream all arround the city.

GRIDO is a chip brand of icecream with several spots in the city, is good enough; if you want a frapuchino or fruits or candies in your icecream, or you want to buy a ice cake this is yor place. In downtown you can find one right in front of the city cathedral on 25 de mayo, and another several spots. If u are in a hotel can also ask your icecream by phone calling to TE: 440485.

POLIJUB is no recomended by me, neither GNOMO, except maybe for to buy icesticks.Just evoid random icecream houses for your sake.

If you want home made icecream of top quality you mus go to the costanera and find BALDOMERO HELADOS. Is logically not cheap, but the icecream is great, creamy, and they have a lot of flavors. If you are celiac or diabetic they have some flavors that you can choose and stay save. BALDOMERO HELADOS just have one spot, but they can send you the icecream if you ask it calling to the Tel: 440688. (they have free wi-fi).

CREMOLATTI, is a italian brand of icecream, they have a good icecream, is not cheap, and they hace just one spot not too accesible on saavedra street right in the corner with córdoba street. They also have delivery service calling to Tel:443200. Best in town if you ask me.

Don't by icecream in the supermarkets, they are horrible.

Remember, you got to pay the delivery, ask how much you have to pay when you do it and tell them if you don't have change.

WELCOME TO FORMOSA !

I'm a "formoseño", an my state is a cool place to know. The peace in early hours of afternoon, habits, partys, and people are make this place special. So let's the guide start.

WHERE ARE YOU!

If you arrive to Formosa by plain, you are in the airport and is only one way to arrive to dawntown, so don't worry; is not far but u must take a cab . In Formosa the cabs are called "remises" and they must be identified.
 BEFORE YOU PICK A CAB.

The formosenian usually is not a bad person, but you gonna come speaking english or some other lenguage and that can always be expensive in Argentina ;D. Anyways, the cab is not expensive . Call for one o pick one right outside the airport terminal, or calling to the "bases" http://guiaformosa.com.ar/remises-en-formosa/ by phone. Ask for the price before you get inside.

If you arribe by bus, u are in the bus terminal (or "terminal de ómnibus"), and you are practicly in downtown . 25 blocks away to the formosenian dock, 15 blocks to plaza San Martín (main square) . You also can take a "remis" if you want to. For the walk just go to the avenue cross it and walk to your left. At your right you going to see a big white cross far away. You must go to the Plaza San Martín.

U had rented a car? well when you arrive to Formosa just continue the road until the Plaza San Martín or The formosenian dock for find a nice hotel.

HOW TO KNOW WHERE ARE YOU

Formosa have blocks of 100 meters each. Have a main square (Plaza San Martín) in the meedle of the historic city and two ways to acces the city. You can walk it all. From Paraguay the north access (Acceso Norte) and from the rest of Argentina the south access (Acceso Sur).

The Green block (4 blocks together really), is the Plaza San Martín, if you got lost just go there.

Downtown is composed by 4 neighborhoods: San Martín, Independencia, Sarmiento y Don Bosco. The main street is called Avenida 25 de mayo, and goes from the City cementery until the formosenian dock crossing thru Plaza San Martín. Before the city cementery the Avenida 25 de mayo is called Avenida Gutnisky. Other important street in Formosa is "9 de julio", this avenue is divided in two by the Plaza San Martín. 9 de julio is the avenue that conect downtown with the notrh access, becoming a new avenue "Avenida Independencia". In the oposite direction the avenue 9 de julio can take you to a dirt street to "Laguna Oca", a biosphere reservation with a river beach inside. The goverment of Formosa have a web page that u can use, but is in spanish.
Anyways, start knowing the city center, the costanera, and access south and north; and mantein yourself in those places at night, is very sure and in other places is nothing nice to see at night hours.
